[Out By The Lake --

May. 13th, 2006 04:15 pmZuko was feeling marginally better when he left the building to get some fresh air -- not really well, but enough that he could shrug off the old men who worried about him.
He brought a box lunch, and sat at the edge of the lake, trying to make out shapes on the water; he did not see the master shark's fin-- and that was well enough, for his heart was heavy and Ed would likely end him were he to slide into the water. His distress was high.
Instead, he made out a shape familiar -- a little boxy form, paddling in the water, trailed by five more. Turtleducks, a mother with chicks, paddling about from some nearby nest in the reeds on the embankment. Longing bit into him, took hold, and did not let go. But there was no one here to pry it off...
Why'd she bite me? Stupid turtleduck!
That's what mother's are like, Zuko. When you mess with their babies... awrm!
And the homesickness got that much worse.
He tore crust off his sandwich, crumbled it in his palms, and tossed a few crumbs to the water. They were quick to zoom in on it, and he couldn't help but laugh... he hadn't seen turtleducks in years.
It warmed and hurt his heart simultaneously.
