A young man raised in a militaristic, expansionist empire, Zuko suffered from the worst flaw he could possibly have: compassion. Compassion for his people, compassion for others, even compassion for animals. He is, to say the least, in trouble when it comes to being the son of a dictator.
Ignored by his father in favor of his more talented sister, loved by his mother only to lose her to political machination, Zuko started life rough. By the age of 12 he was maimed for speaking out for the men under his father's command and sent on the impossible journey: To find the Avatar, who had been missing for one hundred years. It was supposed to be an impossible mission, but within a couple of years, he had in fact done it.
The years after that were hard: the pursuit of the Avatar meant everything to Zuko, but the world was changing rapidly around him thanks to the Avatar's reappearance. There were losses and love, confrontations and bad choices. He found a path to recovery and to true bonds with real friends. But in the end, though the Avatar himself, Zuko found the most important thing -- his own heart and his own way. By the time his journey had ended he was no long a prince in exile, but the Fire Lord reigning over a nation in flux at the age of barely eighteen.
In time he'd marry, have children, raise up a great nation and lead it into a new era. But that will be in the future. For now, he's just finding his way back into Milliway's Bar after many, many years away. In the time since he's assumed the throne, found his mother, attempted reconciliation with his sister, gotten back together with and then broken back up with his girlfriend Mai, and is currently enjoying the company of a retinue of Kyoshi Warriors as a sign of trust and peace with the Earth Kingdom and Kyoshi Island.
To say the least, a lot has changed since he was an angry, hurting thirteen year old stuck on a boat in the middle of no where. It's been a long journey, but he's become someone he can be proud of. And that's the only person who needs to be proud of him, now.
